FAQs
Can bacteria grow in filtered water?
While water filters effectively remove many bacteria from water, it's possible for bacteria to grow in filtered water if the filter is not properly maintained. Bacteria can accumulate on the filter itself or in the water container if it's not cleaned regularly.
How is Bacteria removed from the water?
A filter is required to be “sub-micron” to effectively remove bacteria from water. You should look for filters 0.9 micron or lower for it to be classed as “bacteria-rated”. Bacteria is removed via mechanical filtration, as water is passed through a porous filter with sub-micron-sized holes. The bacteria is too big to be able to pass through the holes, and the contaminants are then trapped within or on the surface of the filter.
